The St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services provides temporary assistance to eligible individuals and families to help them with their basic needs until they can become self-sufficient. Toward that end, we have employment programs and other supportive services such as day care so that people can find and maintain employment. We also administer programs which can assist people with their medical expenses and nutritional needs.

American Red Cross Watertown

This North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross helps provide relief for disaster victims, health and safety training, support for members of the military and a safe and stable blood supply to people in the surrounding counties. The Red Cross will provide immediate care - usually first 3 days for individuals who have experienced a disaster; home fire, flood. They will provide and install smoke alarms for anyone who requests them. You do not need a state issued ID in order to obtain resources. Office Hours: 9:00am - 4:30pm Disaster Response: 24/7

Claxton-Hepburn Mental Health Center

The Mental Health Center (MHC) is a 28-bed, acute-care inpatient psychiatric unit. The center is certified by the New York State Office of Mental Health and is authorized to accept voluntary, involuntary and emergency adult admissions. Additionally, the center offers outpatient psychiatric services and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).

Offers activities for individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability including occupational, physical, and speech therapies, recreational activities, community inclusion services, travel and safety skills, daily living skills, anger management and social skills, personal safety and hygiene, money use/ management, and additional training in areas of interest to the individual.
