Bittersweet Farm

Description:
Bittersweet Farm is 112 acre organic, diverse, family farm. Our focus is education and community, without which we could not survive, our goal is to grow healthy clean food, feed ourselves and others. We have worked with many local organizations from universities, veteran training, and community centers. We currently offer unpaid internships, and incubator farming opportunities, and have one fledgling farmer growing her business here. We can offer food/work exchanges and in some cases off the grid housing in our cabin on the farm. All training and work experience can be documented to build a profile for future work opportunities. We produce vegetables, pigs, sheep, cows for beef, eggs, greenhouse production, herbs and more. We welcome anyone who'd like to reconnect with the Earth and healthy food.

Description:
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problems and help others to recover from alcoholism. Canton Church & Community Program

Description:
Thrift store has affordable second-hand clothing available to everyone. Other assistance programs are location based and available to residents of the Towns and Villages of Canton and Hermon; the Towns of Clare, DeKalb, and Russell; and the Village of Rensselaer Falls. Photo ID and verification of current address required to access assistance programs. The Food Pantry provides food and some other essentials to those in need and offers referrals for additional assistance. May be able to provide short-term monetary relief for people with economic challenges facing in crisis when traditional resources from the governemnt or other community groups are not available through The Richard Morrow Emergency Fund. The School Supply Program provides school supplies, backpacks, dental supplies, and hair cuts annually in August (application required). The Giving Tree Program provides clothing and toys to children under 18 in families with economic challenges (application required).

Canton Potsdam Hospital Rehabilitation for Addiction

Description:
Canton Potsdam Hospital Rehabilitation for Addiction is the only hospital-based detoxification service north of the New York State Thruway and have seven beds which can accommodate patients. Detox services are geared toward five-day methadone taper. Patients/clients may be self-referred or referred by a provider. Patients/clients must meet stringent criteria for admission. Behavioral Health Service provides outpatient chemical dependency evaluations, intensive outpatient programming (three hours, three days per week), chemical dependency groups, as well as inpatient chemical dependency rehabilitation, and outpatient psychiatric counseling and/or medical management. These services are available to those who may not meet the criteria for inpatient detox or for whom an inpatient stay is not appropriate. Assessment of a client's needs is individualized and based on many factors; decisions are made based on space available, whether or not a patient/client is in significant withdrawal, or whether a patient/client has a current use requiring a medically monitored or supervised withdrawal. All counselors and medical providers are certified and experienced in treating addictions.

First Mile Last Mile

Description:
Individual's can call NYSARC to book a ride (at 315-386-2600) to book a ride with a volunteer driver that can pick them up wherever they are and driven to a bus station. When they get dropped at the other bus station they can also call to get another ride from the bus station to final destination. The first mile last mile runs system runs from 4:30am-7:00pm and the cost of the bus is 2 dollars each way.

Grace House - New Hope Transformation House Ministries

Description:
Grace House is a transitional, supportive living environment for six women in early recovery from addictive disorders. The women live together in a family-like setting with the support of a ìhouse motherî who mentors and guides them toward the final steps of reintegration into full community life. The St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House is an empowering resource for survivors and families of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Renewal House has a 24/7 hotline as well as resources in their center. Office hours are 8am-5pm.
